Montana Democrats pick musician Rob Quist to run for U.S. House

http://billingsgazette.com/news/government-and-politics/mt-democrats-pick-musician-rob-quist-to-run-for-us/article_ae4853b1-3b4b-565c-8769-6ddea049a7b8.html

Quist, who gained fame in the Mission Mountain Wood Band, hasnít ever held elected office. When announcing his campaign, Quist touted years of public service including serving for 11 years on the Montana Arts Council and as a state ambassador to Montanaís sister state in Kumamoto, Japan. He advocated for the Montana Food Bank and received a grant from the Office of Public Instruction to create anti-bullying programs and art programs in public schools.

Quist said heís traveled the state and understands what kind of representation Montanans need. He grew up in Cut Bank and now lives in the Flathead Valley. The musician received an endorsement from former Gov. Brian Schweitzer, who called Quist a political outsider who will stand up for Montana.

I know Rob Quist personally. He is a good and decent person and would be an excellent Dem Representative in Congress. Go Rob!

1. I'm relieved you know him, the Schweitzer endorses him and he has a good bio

I've kind of soured on political outsiders as a qualification
Not sure why???
Oh yeah... Hair Douchengroper

2. Sounds like a good pick with a shot at flipping this seat

He spoke to policies he would support, including fixing the Affordable Care Act, funding education, opposing the transfer of public lands and womenís reproductive rights, including protecting funding for Planned Parenthood.

The last Democrat to hold the congressional seat was Pat Williams, who served from 1979-1997.

...Quist said he has been connecting with Montanans his whole life, and he doesn't think he will have trouble getting people to cross party lines. He said he has had conversations with Republicans, and they agree on 80 percent of the issues.

Thanks for the report.

4. 5 songs from the Mission Mountain Wood Band catalog

Before being selected as the Montana Democrats' nomination to fill Zinke's seat in the U.S. House, Rob Quist was a musician with the Mission Mountain Wood Band. Here's a look at a few of their songs.

5. Thanks for posting!

Rob was one of the founding members of the MMWB. More recently, he has done solo work or has played and toured with his long-time friend Jack Gladstone, who is Blackfeet.

Here is one of their songs from their album Odyssey West:

You can find this CD on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-West-Rob-Quist/dp/B00018J084

I wish him all success in this new venture!

7. When I read comment sections from newspapers online

When I read comment sections from newspapers online, I remember how effectively Skinner and the other Admins eliminated the bickering, drama and general combativeness that dominated DU in years past.
