Murphy slams Guadagno's 'deafening silence' on Confederate flag photo
NEWARK -- Democratic gubernatorial nominee Phil Murphy hammered Republican rival Kim Guadagno Wednesday after she did not condemn a New Jersey lawmaker who embraces the Confederate flag.
Murphy accused Guadagno of "knocking on a window with a wet sponge" after she passed at an opportunity last week to stake hardline position against the Confederate flag. The topic boiled over after Assemblyman Parker Space, R-Sussex, sparked controversy when he posted a Facebook photo of he and his wife standing by a Confederate flag.
"I have not seen the actual posting so I'm going to leave it to Parker Space to answer for that," Guadagno said at a public event a week ago Tuesday in Robbinsville.
"Look -- the Confederate flag -- I want to see the picture," she said later. "My point to you is, I want to see the picture first."
