WTF in NJ People not wearing masks

We are visiting friends in NJ and have been shocked to find almost nobody is wearing masks. There is no mask mandate. It seems the mandate was lifted around Memorial Day, so could this be in order to cater to the tourism industry?

I checked on the state COVID info site and the last update was in JULY.

What part of NJ did you visit?

I'm in a fairly conservative area near the central jersey shore. On the mainland, there are still a smattering of Rump signs up at some idiot's houses.

Some people , like myself, are back to wearing masks inside stores and restaurants, and in outside crowds, but a lot are not.

I thought it was because we, again, are in a fairly Con area.

I was thinking maybe up north they might be smarter on average, but I do not know.

It was incredible seeing seniors and waitstaff not wearing masks at a diner in a senior community.

We're from NJ originally but moved to Maryland in 1990. My husband's from Middletown; I'm from Wayne, but we lived in the New Brunswick area before moving to MD.

That's my town! Psssh, don't tell any stalkers.

Did you go to Seaside or just stay in town?

Or to any of the parks or trails? Cattus Island? Huddy?

Did you check out Island Heights?

Have you ever had Uncle Dood's donuts?

Our mall is fairly small I guess, but I love it.

Oh well.

trying to figure out whether we want to move there. And had lunch at the HC diner. My husband's parents lived there for years.

We're going to Island Beach State Park today.

I'm in Hunterdon County - IE GOP Territory. Very few are wearing masks out here.

In Hudson County - where I work - people are wearing them.

I was down in Perth Amboy for dinner two weekends ago - outside . . . People were masked walking to their tables - outside.

I think the more 'dense' the communities, the more kind and considerate people are.

My sister in law in Monmouth says each school district in the state makes its own masking decisions for the kids and teachers. I can't believe this. I grew up in North Jersey, worked as a newspaper reporter in Middlesex and Somerset counties for years, and always felt the strong home rule stuff was an enormous waste of resources.

Maryland has few muniicipalities. Almost everything is run by county government, including schools.

Sedition Susan Soloway is the Freeholder in Charge in Hunterdon County. She was at the 1/6 Coup Attempt. And she refuses to step down, and is very much a Trumper.

I'm safe in Flemington with Mayor Betsy Driver (County Seat). She's not stuck on stupid, racism, bigotry, arrogance, and sedition - like our entirely GOP Freeholders are.

I refuse to refer to a group of people who win by racism as their new name of 'Commissioners'. Hudson has Commissioners, I have Freeholders.

An elected official who was at the attempted coup? Unbelievable.

I've long known that the gaggle of repukes running Somerset County are a pack of assholes, but never knew much about Hunterdon politics.

Back in my reporter days we called them the Board of Frozen Cheeseholders.

We are making real progress with our young people. I think the feeling is in general that if you are unvaccinated in New Jersey you are so at your own risk.

I am personally tired of these antivax types. If they want Darwin awards, so be it. It's not like they represent the pinnacle of humanity.

The Jersey shore may be the most right wing part of the State.

On the boardwalk, few people were wearing masks last week when I was there, but many children were. I wasn't all that upset about it as I, and my family are vaccinated.

If the Republican base commits suicide in an orgy of ignorance who exactly loses?

Who would be left alive to vote for them, if this continues?

I assume they are setting up so many ways to cheat that they're not worried about losing supporters.
