Asbury Park Democrats Elect New Leadership, Outline Vision for Greater Community Engagement

ASBURY PARK, NJ — The Asbury Park Democratic Committee has elected a new executive board, marking what party leaders describe as the beginning of a renewed effort to strengthen neighborhood connections, expand civic participation, and build a stronger year-round presence throughout the city.

The committee's newly elected leadership team will be headed by Chair Jacquelyn Godbey and Vice Chair Tyree Morton. Together with a newly elected executive board, the leadership says it hopes to create a Democratic organization that is active in the community well beyond campaign season.

According to the committee, the new leadership has identified several challenges facing local civic engagement, including declining voter participation and the need for stronger relationships between residents and the Democratic organization. Their response is a new organizing model centered on Asbury Park's nine voting districts, with volunteers working neighborhood by neighborhood and block by block to engage residents and encourage participation in local government and community initiatives.

"Our vision is to build a Democratic Party that truly belongs to the people of Asbury Park," Godbey said. "That means listening first, showing up consistently, and empowering residents to help shape the future of our city."
