Judge announced date for ruling on sealed Bridgegate files
TRENTON -- A federal judge is scheduled to rule next month on whether to unseal confidential documents in the George Washington Bridge lane closure scandal criminal trial.
Judge Susan Wigenton, who presided over the recent trial that found two former Gov. Chris Christie associates guilty of nine charges for their roles in the Bridgegate scheme, is slated to make a ruling on whether to make certain case files public on Jan. 17.
Federal prosecutors are fighting to keep confidential some documents sought in a series of legal filings by a consortium of news organizations, including NJ Advance Media, before the trial and in the wake of the verdicts. The documents include grand jury testimony and a list of unindicted co-conspirators connected with the scandal.
Last week, prosecutors filed with the court unredacted copies of all the sealed documents media outlets have requested. Those files remain sealed unless Wigenton rules otherwise.
