Both leading Senate Democratic candidates reject PAC cash

Rep. Ben Ray LujŠn has pledged not to take corporate PAC money for his campaign to represent New Mexico in the US Senate.

LujŠn, a Democrat running to replace fellow Dem Sen. Tom Udall after Udall announced that he would not run for reelection, made his money promise in an op-ed published on the New Mexico Political Report website on Friday morning.

"This decision is at the core of the kind of campaign I'm running," LujŠn wrote. "A campaign run on New Mexican values that is built by the people, not corporations."

LujŠn, who formerly had a big fundraising role as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, had sharp words for those who take money from political action committees, using a recent example of deregulation that favors corporations at the expense of workers to make his point.
