LAS CRUCES - During a week when people in New Mexico and nationwide have begun to call for businesses to reopen amid the coronavirus pandemic, it's not looking like New Mexico public health orders will become more flexible anytime soon.
Some small business owners have urged Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham to reopen businesses that have been deemed non-essential as jobless claims rise and owners lose revenue.
In response to the White House's plan to look at reopening the American economy, Lujan Grisham issued a statement Thursday saying it was too soon.
"We appreciate their suggestions, and we will evaluate them thoroughly, but the plain overriding fact is we cannot put the cart before the horse," she said. "As CDC, FEMA, and public health experts across the country have made clear, we are not at a point currently where it would be safe to reopen."

Oh, and I can purchase plenty of alcohol at grocery stores and pharmacies. Unlike the unfortunate citizens of Pennsylvania.

(126,238 posts)What the hell are people supposed to do during this time anyways? Yes, people here on DU and posting the late night comedy show clips and music videos, but even that only provides a limited social outlet. I'll occasionally walk around the apartment complex or ride my bike, but if this drags on for several more months then I will go bonkers.
