4-year-old held gun the night toddler was shot
An Albuquerque television station reported Friday the 4-year-old son of a Santa Fe police officer held a gun belonging to his father the morning his 2-year-old brother was shot to death last year in Rio Rancho. Lincoln Harmon, the son of Santa Fe police Officer Jonathan Harmon, died around 8:30 a.m. Dec. 8 at the family’s home in Rio Rancho.
Courtney Harmon had called emergency dispatchers to report Lincoln was critically injured after falling off a chair. Officers responded to the home of a Santa Fe police officer and discovered the boy with a gunshot wound.
The 4-year-old told investigators he had pushed a chair to a counter, looking for bubble gum. He found a gun, and it discharged, according to the report. Mystery has surrounded Lincoln’s death from the beginning, with Rio Rancho police and the city attorney refusing to hand over documents ...
Courtney Harmon said she found the gun on the counter and in a “quick reaction” put it back on the shelf. She said her husband usually keeps guns on the very top shelf of a cabinet. “My husband deals with the guns,” she told investigators. “I don’t mess with them.”
The station reported the state Office of the Medical Investigator listed Lincoln’s death as accidental.

Rio Rancho changes stance on death of a 2-year-old after attorney general threatens legal action
While facing the threat of a possible lawsuit from the New Mexico attorney general, Rio Rancho officials said Tuesday they are planning to release records that would shed light on what happened when a 2-year-old son of a Santa Fe police officer was shot and killed inside his Rio Rancho home.
Right before Christmas, 2-year-old Lincoln Harmon was shot to death inside a home in the Enchanted Hills subdivision. He was the son of 28-year-old officer Jonathan Harmon and the nephew of another Santa Fe officer.
Initially, first responders were told the boy had fallen out of a chair.
“Welfare check for a 2-year-old male,” dispatchers are heard saying over police radio traffic. “Looks like he fell off a chair not awake unknown breathing status."
Court records obtained by Target 7 would later reveal the child died from a gunshot.
Rio Rancho hasn't shared much information about how the 2-year-old ended up shot to death.
A city spokesperson did say she believes the public records act conflicts with the state's children's code which calls for confidentiality for abused children ...
