Choked up Eliot Spitzer says he failed electorate, family but deserves forgiveness: ‘You go through

By Adam Edelman / NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

Freshly minted New York comptroller candidate Eliot Spitzer hit the airwaves Tuesday, submitting to an intense morning show interview that nearly reduced him to tears.

An emotional Spitzer took rapid fire questions from hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” explaining, as tears welled in his eyes, that he’s changed personally in the five years since he resigned in disgrace from the governorship after a prostitution scandal.

“A lot of pain,” a weepy Spitzer said after Brzezinski asked how he was different from the man who just five years ago was busted trysting with high-priced hookers.

5. I'm shocked. (Not really shocked at all, actually; which is why I can't watch these "news" shows.)

But it remains the only relevant question. I don't know that much about his opponent, Scott Stringer, other than that he's been around forever, is a distant relative of Bella Abzug, and is really popular with politicians and other establishment types.

I'm thinking Spitzer is more what I'm looking for in a comptroller.

3. Louisiana forgave Vitter.

But I doubt Vitter will ever shoot higher, thankfully.

I hope Spitzer can receive as much grace.

4. He may because the field of candidates in the controllers race may not be able to compete.

But I am actually leaning toward Scott Stringer.
