Judge denies Grimm request for ‘cooling-off’ delay

Colby Hamilton

A federal judge on Tuesday set a timetable for the corruption trial of Staten Island congressman Michael Grimm, ensuring that he won’t face a jury until after the November elections.

Judge Pamela Chen of the Eastern District granted prosecutors' request that jury selection in the trial begin on Dec. 1, with motions for the defense due to the court by Oct. 6.

Chen denied a request from Grimm's attorneys that the trial be pushed back a month, with jury selection beginning in the new year.
