National Grid will return $25M to Brooklyn, L.I. customers

The Public Service Commission announced a deal Thursday that requires National Grid to return nearly $25 million to its downstate customers after an investigation revealed accounting errors in the way the utility established its rates.

"An investigation by staff during the course of the National Grid upstate's 2010 electric rate case, together with a management audit of National Grid’s upstate operations, revealed the need for a thorough examination of National Grid’s business arrangements with National Grid’s service companies," the P.S.C. said in a statement Thursday.
