Federal application filed for hydroelectric project at Delta Dam

The City of Watervliet has filed a federal application for license the Delta Hydroelectric Project at the Delta Dam.

If all goes well, construction could begin next summer.

The application was filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Aug. 26. The dam is owned by the state Canal Corp.

According to a legal notice filed by Watervliet, the project consists of the existing dam constructed in 1912 (1,016 feet long and 76 feet tall) and Lake Delta as the impoundment (2,700 acres of surface area).
