Primary picks for Albany-NYDN endorsements

EDITORIALS

Democratic voters will reckon on Tuesday with unusual competition for seats in the state Senate and Assembly, because Gov. Cuomo rightly refused to call boss-driven special elections as members departed (some in handcuffs).

The Daily News herewith makes endorsements in 13 races. There’s a caveat you should be aware of. We generally did not make our recommendations based on the candidates’ positions on the issues. On that score, they hardly differ.

Since they all sing from the de Blasio progressive hymnal, the deciding factor often came down to which candidate seemed the smartest and most energetic — despite sometimes clustering on the wrong side of hot-button issues.

Two examples: On the Upper East Side, the pack is united in trashing plans for a Manhattan waterfront waste transfer station; in brownstone Brooklyn, all proclaim Long Island College Hospital coulda shoulda been saved.
