Zephyr Teachout has pitched herself as a "traditional" Democrat in her uphill challenge to Governor Andrew Cuomo.

Borrowing a line from her old boss Howard Dean, the Fordham Law professor says she represents the "Democratic wing of the Democratic Party," falling squarely in the progressive tradition of Franklin Roosevelt.

But in her writings and speeches, Teachout has also described her own political philosophy as a kind of post-crash progressivism that departs from the current Democratic orthodoxy in its distrust of centralized government.
