DiNapoli: Infrastructure spending has declined
Rick Karlin, Capitol bureau
Comptroller Tom DiNapoli is out with a report showing how infrastructure spending has declined in recent years, in part due to the phase-out of post-crash stimulus funds.
Thats not to say lawmakers are totally oblivious they put more highway funding in this year after being convinced that the rough winter led to a surplus of potholes.
Here are the details:
Local government capital spending on roads, bridges and water and sewer systems declined by approximately 8 percent between 2010 and 2012 according to a report issued today by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli. After a review of infrastructure studies, DiNapolis office estimates that municipalities should be spending about $3.9 billion annually to keep up with deteriorating capital assets but are only spending roughly $1.2 billion less than a third of what is necessary.
