What a unified Democratic push for the Senate looks like, maybe

Laura Nahmias

ALBANY—After a divisive primary contest, New York’s Democrats are beginning a united campaign to reclaim a majority in the state’s Senate.

For the first time in many years, all of the state’s Democrats, including Governor Andrew Cuomo and a united front of labor groups, have publicly agreed to work toward a Democratic majority in the Senate.

On Wednesday morning, the two sides that opposed each other in the primary both turned their focus to the Senate.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio, who backed Cuomo for re-election, encouraged a roomful of donors to contribute money to the effort, while explaining that Democratic control in Albany is key to implementing many of the mayor’s priorities in his first term.
