Tim Wu on his future, de Blasio, the political press

Conor Skelding

The day after Tim Wu took 40 percent of the votes in Tuesday's Democratic primary, he met with Capital for an interview at Chelsea's Pushcart Coffee, where the staff recognized him as a lapsed regular. He said he hadn't had time for a cup of pour-over coffee for months. Having traded out his suit for a crumpled polo shirt and sandals, he talked about the race.

CAPITAL: You've done this once, now. Would you do it again?

WU: My wife's probably gonna hate this answer, but I think—not anytime soon, but I do think the answer would be yes. ... It would, for me, be worth taking [a shot] at least once again in a more normal race.

CAPITAL: Not against Governor Cuomo? Not for a statewide office out of the gate?

... of the cookie-cutter NYS DEM machine and found people who could think, breathe and speak intelligently and meaningfully for a change.

In this case we went to academe, but there's plenty of talent out there. We just have to break the stranglehold this political system has that enables it to thrust upon us an endless parade of numb-skills, demagogs and thieves.
