What are your feelings on the Redistricting panel proposition?

I'm mixed. I think the process needs to be reformed but if legislators pick the panels, I am sure it's still going to lead to politicized gerrymandering especially on the Puke's part? I am not sure which way I should vote on this? Input appreciated.

I am kind of leaning towards no at this point after reading that. It sounds like there are too many flaws. If this is in place, then there will be even less of an incentive to address problems in the future.

5. Zephyr Teachout included this statement about Prop 1

in an email on Wednesday. I asked for clarification of her position on this but haven't gotten a reply yet.

"Another critical vote that deserves your attention is Proposal 1, a sham of an amendment which would enshrine gerrymandering in New York’s constitution. Make sure you vote NO on Prop 1."

This Election Day, New York voters will be asked to do more than cast their ballots for governor. You’ll also be asked to pass judgment on a constitutional amendment that changes the way election districts are redrawn every 10 years.

Proposition 1 will have lasting implications that could be bad for voters and bad for democracy.

That’s why the NYCLU is asking you to vote no on Proposition 1.

In a democracy, elections should be fair contests between candidates. But in New York, politicians have for years rigged elections by changing the shape of their districts to pack in voters who will keep them in office. That’s why so many incumbents stay in power.

Proposition 1 appears to remove politicians from the election district equation by creating a “Redistricting Commission” to perform that task. But it’s a sham: Under the proposal, the politicians whose careers are at stake will keep the final say on how district lines are drawn.

Proposition 1 just makes a bad system worse. As a New York Times editorial put it, the proposed constitutional amendment is “not a reform. It is another way to maintain the status quo, and does not deserve voters’ support.”

That’s why I’m asking you to vote no on Proposition 1 this Tuesday. It’s on the back of your ballot. Just flip it over and vote no. Tweet it!

I was tempted to vote yes after the crappy job they did redistricting me just in time for the last election. There are two additional propositions, took this test and it looks like I'm in favor of them both, so I'm planning to vote yes on two and three...

on prop 1. It's more of the same. The independent board sounds better, keeps the pols to of it.

Prop 2 seems ok, leaning yes

Prop 3 the money needs to go to other thing like smaller classes and hiring more teachers. What this does is spend a lot on expendable items, so what happens in 3-5 yrs when they are out of date?
