Schumer on Boehner’s ‘massive ignorance’ on mass transit

Conor Skelding

Senators Chuck Schumer and Richard Blumenthal called on Congress to pass a four-point plan for transportation safety on Friday, and piled on House Speaker John Boehner for saying it was "stupid" to link Amtrak cuts with this week's derailment in Philadelphia.

"Speaker Boehner doesn't even understand, because they come from their little parochial areas, and they don't understand the need for rail transportation in urban areas," Schumer said. "Speaker Boehner speaks with massive ignorance."

Blumenthal, Connecticut's senior senator, said that Boehner's comments betrayed a "know-nothing attitude."

'Speaker Boehner speaks with forked tongue.' C'mon, Schumer had to be thinking that when he said the other.
