On ‘garbage’ trains and other ‘Subway Horror Stories’

Dana Rubinstein

"I’d like to know why the E train runs like garbage nearly every day."

"I waited over 40 minutes at my stop for a local 7 train only to have four pass by, too crammed with riders."

Plaints like these are the substance of Subway Horror Stories, Vol. 1: Spring 2015, a book of vignettes a transportation advocacy group called Riders Alliance compiled and plans to deliver to Governor Andrew Cuomo and the state Legislature. Members will read it aloud Sunday afternoon in front of the governor's New York City offices.

They run them to a limited extent after the morning rush in the outer boroughs.
