Westchester Community Becomes One Of First In Northeast To Ban Gas-Powered Leaf Blowers

In a unanimous and unprecedented decision, officials in a Westchester County municipality voted to ban gas-powered leaf blowers effective January 2022, becoming one of the first communities in the Northeast to take such action.

The Monday, Sept. 21 decision, according to the Village of Larchmont's Board of Trustees, was driven by environmental concerns.

“Larchmont is proud to be a leader in municipal green policy," said Mayor Lorraine Walsh. "Policies such as this, which ban the use of gas-powered leaf blowers entirely, are essential if we are going to make meaningful progress in turning back the environmental damages causing global climate change.

"Thanks to the Larchmont Environmental Committee for working so hard on this legislative change and educating the community about the impacts of gas-powered leaf blower use.”

We have a ban on gas leaf blowers as well. Thing is, you have to call the police when you see the leaf blower in action, and if the police get there and the leaf blower is not blowing leaves, oh well. Plus, you have to call the police on the gardener who may or may not speak English.

What they need to do is offer a leaf blower buy back for credit on electric blowers.

I have two commercial/industrial type landscapers living on both sides of me and another neighbor who calls this crazy mower man to cut her yard. She keeps it so short that when wild man riding mower guy comes, he is cutting into the dirt and spewing it everywhere and I am downwind from his racing mower. There is always some loud gas spewing foliage hog disturbing my peace. I know there is nothing I can do. They encroach on my property and try to cut everything in site and I am trying to retain the natural foliage for wildlife.

I will be reinforcing my property lines though. I have had it with the neighbors cutting into my habitat. Again, nothing I can do immediately but am planning on setting up new fences.

It disturbs the peace and pollutes the environment and I intend to get a survey, stake out the lines and put up a new fence. I mutter this to myself every time that infernal loud gas powered super machinery starts up.
