Schumer, Gillibrand secure limo regulations in response to Schoharie crash
SCHOHARIE —Nearly three years after a limousine crash that killed 20 people in Schoharie, tougher federal laws governing limos across the country are in reach, marking a major victory for all of those involved, supporters said Friday.
The laws cover a gamut of issues that have come under intense scrutiny since the Oct. 6, 2018 tragedy. The laws are included in the federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, guided there by New York's senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand.
The massive infrastructure bill still needs to be finalized, but the portions covering limo regulations are expected to stay after an amendment made it in this week, lawmakers said.
"The support, both from Republicans and Democrats working together on that amendment, was just absolutely heartwarming and made the roller coaster ride a little bit more worthwhile," Kevin Cushing told the Times Union. "It's been tough."

Kudos to both New York senators. I just checked to see what Congressional District Schoharie is in. Until we got redistricted back in 2013, it was probably in my District 20. I worked for Scott Murphy in 2009 and 2010 and we had to call people who were downstate far enough that I was grateful that they provided a map, LOL. But it's now in District 19 which is represented by Antonio Delgado - a Democrat. It's close enough that we saw his campaign ads here and I liked him a lot - and I sure wished that we could have him instead of she-who-should-not-be-named.

First there was Gerald Solomon, then John Sweeney. They were both pretty much lifers. When Sweeney was in office, the Democrats rarely even bothered to field a candidate. It wasn't until Kirsten Gillibrand ran in 2006 - and President Clinton came to this little burg to campaign for her - that we finally got Democratic representation. When Senator Clinton was appointed Obama's Secretary of State, Governor Paterson appointed Gillibrand to replace her as senator. That's when Scott Murphy ran. He won the first election and lost the second. I liked him a lot - and he was actually local! I passed his house today on my way home. *sigh*
You probably don't remember Gerald Solomon, but he became a national embarrassment when he made the national news. They showed a clip on Jay Leno's Tonight Show of him having a vociferous argument about guns with Patrick Kennedy. Gerry insisted that his wife Frieda needed a gun to protect herself when he was in D.C. and she was alone here in the wild North Country. 
Now I know where he lived (not far from Scott Murphy, actually) and it's a very expensive neighborhood with big houses, not exactly the Wild West. And I thought of that today since I went to a family funeral where the burial was at Gerald Solomon National Cemetery. He was very popular in these parts. And on the way in, there's a big sign that says that no guns or weapons are allowed in the park. Remembering his gun stance, I found that rather ironic.
