Winter tourism campaign targets NYC commuters
By NATASHA SCULLY
Earlier this year, at the Tourism Summit, Gov. Andrew Cuomo promised to dedicate $60 million to help generate revenue for 700,000 jobs that depend on tourism. The governor kept his promise, announcing a new fall and winter "I Love New York" campaign, which he hopes will boost tourism both in and outside of New York City.
In an effort to reach New York City residents, Cuomo has partnered with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority to post new advertisements in subways, buses, trains and on commuter platforms.
"This partnership with the MTA allows us to further leverage the resources available towards economic prosperity for the state," said Kenneth Adams, president, CEO and commissioner of Empire State Development.
Using modern technology to draw in more tourists, advertisements will also appear on digital video boards throughout Grand Central Station's main hall and the Long Island Rail Road passenger areas in Penn Station, as well as on more than 100 digital Urban Panels located at subway entrances across Manhattan.
