Obama Vets Eye New York Races With New Advertising Bid

BY DAN FRIEDMAN
A new partnership between political advertising and data companies led by veterans of the Obama campaign aims to sell the campaign’s successful national method of targeting perusable voters with ads in local races – especially in expensive markets like New York City.

GMMB, a Democratic political advertising firm and Civis Analytics announced Thursday that they will combine forces in a bid to replicate for political and business clients the Obama campaign’s model for taping streams of data to identify what voters could be swayed. And determine when and where to run ads to most efficiently reach them.

The campaign used a system to track voters’ TV viewing habits and determine the best times to run aims aimed at them. That allowing campaign operatives to find bargains when it could reach voters it could influence without buying ads at peak times.

“This is something we’ve done on a national level … and now the question is how to bring it to scale, said Anson Kaye, a GMMB senior vice president who worked for Obama for America.
