Tappan Zee sound monitors to get a boost

Khurram Saeed

The winter weather hasn’t only slowed pile driving and other construction work on the new Tappan Zee Bridge, it’s affected its environmental monitors.

The devices run on solar power and the lack of sunny days has at times caused the monitors to run low on juice.

The monitors allow the public to track noise, air quality and vibration levels from the project. Sensors feed information to the monitors around the clock, and those interested can view the data on the project’s website, http://www.newnybridge.com.

A new device will soon be installed in South Nyack, making it the sixth one in Rockland. Five are also set up around Tarrytown.
