BLACKS IN BACK signs. The owner of the place was telling some people he didn’t care what was happening in South Carolina, they were going to the back. I was in first grade.

I asked him if he realized IN MY LIFETIME there were places where black folk could not use certain stores, drinking fountains, bathrooms - would he agree with that? He seemed stunned and said, "no". I told him then stop wanting to deny rights to gay folk. WTF, wake up already. To his credit, he did seem to reconsider.
