Governor Stein Takes Action on Four Bills (press release)

Raleigh
July 2, 2026

Today Governor Stein signed four bills into law.

Governor Stein made the following statement on signing House Bill 481:

“This bill builds on House Bill 50’s progress to support law enforcement officers returning to work from retirement. Vacancies in law enforcement agencies have a real impact on public safety, and this benefit incentivizes experienced law enforcement officers to come back and serve their communities. I appreciate the legislature’s partnership in supporting law enforcement and keeping people safe.”

Governor Stein made the following statement on signing House Bill 83:

“This bill strengthens the state’s response to human trafficking and better protects minors from obscene materials.”

Governor Stein made the following statement on signing Senate Bill 595:

“This bill conforms North Carolina law to IRS changes, provides tax relief for survivors of Hurricane Helene, and protects seniors from financial exploitation. Giving bank tellers the ability to refuse suspicious transactions and notify trusted contacts will better protect people from scams and fraud. One provision could hamper the state’s innovation economy, and I urge the General Assembly to revisit this issue in future legislation.”

Governor Stein also signed House Bill 376 into law.
