Email from Democracy North Carolina: "Moral Mondays" and more...

The NC NAACP and "HK on J" coalition are taking the message of Moral Monday on the road! A 25-city tour began Monday with stops in Raleigh, Wilson, and Rocky Mount, and will continue through Friday, June 7.

Tour stops will feature speakers on key topics such as unemployment, voting rights, healthcare, education, as well as ongoing and growing civil disobedience actions in Raleigh. Find out when the tour will be coming your way from this tour schedule. Democracy NC speakers will be on the agenda at several tour stops.

Democracy North Carolina prepared a Report Card and overview of the General Assembly’s actions for distribution at these events and elsewhere. You can see a sample of the 4-page tabloid at this link. If you’d like free quantities to distribute, please let us know at info@democracy-nc.org.

Mega Moral Monday: June 3rd

The NC General Assembly continues to push their regressive agenda, which targets and undermines the rights of everyday North Carolinians. The NAACP and HK on J coalition are calling on all people of conscience to descend on Raleigh and show their opposition. Our message centers on compassion for the poor, economic justice, and voting rights.

There will be more civil disobedience (but you do not have to get arrested to attend!) and we expect the crowd of supporters to be even bigger than last time!

" target="_blank">Here is a terrific video about the last Moral Monday protest, which drew hundreds of supporters and resulted in 57 people being taken to jail for nonviolent direct action.

Come out and meet the Democracy NC staff and our Democracy Summer interns! We’ll be at the Bicentennial Mall in downtown Raleigh (across from the General Assembly, 16 W. Jones Street) at 5:00 pm.

We hope to see you there!

PS: If you wish to engage in civil disobedience, an orientation occurs at 3:00. Call the NAACP office to discuss your decision at 919-682-4700.

..., evidently, to North Carolina. Great work, North Carolinians!

I'm sentimental, if you know what I mean
I love the country but I can't stand the scene.
And I'm neither left or right
I'm just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But I'm stubborn as those garbage bags
that Time cannot decay,
I'm junk but I'm still holding up
this little wild bouquet:
Democracy is coming to the U.S.A.
