Fracking bill RACING through NC Senate!

Fracking is a dangerous method of extracting natural gas from dense rock deep underground. Right now it's illegal to frack in North Carolina, but that could change any day!

State Senator Bob Rucho (R-Mecklenburg) unveiled a proposal to allow fracking in North Carolina. Not only would his plan overturn North Carolina's fracking ban immediately, but it would let the industry regulate itself and exempt fracking companies from disclosing any of their records to the public for two years! We have to let our Senators know right away that this is a bad idea and that we do not want fracking in North Carolina.

Learn more about Senator Rucho's fracking plan:

Make sure your Senator listens!

Please, take just a minute to put the letter in your own words! You can't imagine what a difference this makes to legislators. They will probably notice if they receive the same letter 1,000 times... but if they get 1,000 different letters, each one personalized, they'll know for sure how much we care about fracking.

Don't worry, you only have to write a sentence or two. Legislators aren't looking for essays. Say as much or as little as you want. Just be sure you say that you want them to keep fracking out of North Carolina, and tell them why!

Honestly this crap scares the bejeezus out of me. It's poison. But I don't see much viable resistance to it here.

It said that the natural gas reserves and groundwater are closer together here than in other states and special precautions will need to be taken. I know Perdue said fracking could be done safely so I wonder if she can or will veto this if there is no regulation.

I hope she will veto it. That would be a perfectly legit reason to do so. However the Repub legislature would probably just do another midnight override.

I'm not at all convinced it can be done safely - even when gas reserves and groundwater aren't closer together. I find this all very worrisome. I feel like if the nuclear fallout from Fukushima doesn't get us, fracking chemicals will.

Oh well...
