If you miss the voter registration deadline, you can still register to vote and cast a ballot during the early voting period, using what's called same-day registration.

Look at Section 4 - "What is the Deadline to Register to Vote?" - 2nd paragraph in that section reads as above.

Not on the actual election day

"With same-day registration, you can fill out a registration form, show an identifying document, and vote at an early voting site when it is open (not on Election Day)."

Not 'news' link but from the NC voter guide.

I am now in the 12th district and represented by a woman from Greensboro, even though I live in Charlotte

I and also heard that same day was still in effect, but it was hard to find a link. But finally got this one.

With same-day registration, you can fill out a registration form, show an identifying document, and vote at an early voting site when it is open (not on Election Day).

The identifying document must be one of these: a NC driver’s license; photo ID from a government agency; student photo ID with a school document showing the student’s address; or a utility bill, bank statement, payroll stub, or document from any government agency with the person’s name and current address.

A court ruling may change this situation. Until then, same-day registration is available.

Please note, you DO NOT need an ID to vote absentee. Or vote provisionally at the polls and check one of the "reasonable" impediment" boxes. That entire law is also a clusterfuck....

Here is a good "quick tips" hand out: http://nc-democracy.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/WalletCard2016Primaryx4.pdf

Of course it's heavily gerrymandered, race was considered when drawing the lines. Alma Adams is a good person - I like her. I have Mark Walker (6th).
