Related: About this forumAmazing that Martin O'Malley's name was still on the NC Democratic ballot.
He was my 2nd choice but he suspended his campaign quite awhile ago.
Why was his name on the ballot?

(17,651 posts)O'Malley pulled 4%-5% of the vote.
Not sure what that means delegate-wise but every one counts.
Too bad.

(10,421 posts)Same reason why the Congressional candidates were on the ballot despite the fact that a vote in that race doesn't count - map redrawing means that Primary is later on.

(17,651 posts)Thought to warn people and I guess striking out a name on a ballot is illegal.
Too bad. Really.

(27,764 posts)T he first has been mentioned - ballots are printed well in advance of each election (they have to be vetted, plus some are sent overseas)
The second is less well known - there's a legal difference between dropping out and suspending a campaign. "Suspending" means you just aren't campaigning any longer... but you remain on the ballot (and, more importantly, can continue raising funds to pay off campaign debts).
