July 15 – NC - filing and payment for corporate income and franchise
taxes, individual income tax returns, partnership tax returns, estates and
trusts tax returns, extended from April 15, waive penalties as long as file
and pay tax by July 15. No interest relief – unless state law is changed.
Taxpayers that need additional time to file beyond the July 15th deadline
can submit a request for an additional extension with the IRS or with the
Department on or before July 15, 2020. These changes do not apply to
trust taxes, such as sales and use or withholding taxes. Expansion of
North Carolina Tax Penalty Relief from March 15, 2020 through July
15, 2020. The Department expands relief from the following penalties
for failing to obtain a license, to file a return, or to pay taxes: • Failure to
obtain a license; • Failure to file a return; • Failure to pay tax; and • The
penalties regarding informational returns. The Department will not
assess penalties for failure to obtain a license, failure to file a return, or
failure to pay a tax that is due on March 15, 2020 through July 15, 2020,
if the corresponding license is obtained, return is filed, or tax is paid on
or before July 15, 2020. The relief from Late Action Penalties applies
to the following tax types: • Income and Franchise Tax; • Withholding
Tax; • Sales and Use Tax; • Scrap Tire Disposal Tax; White Goods
Disposal Tax; • Motor Vehicle Lease and Subscription Tax; • Solid
Waste Disposal Tax; • 911 Service Charge for Prepaid
Telecommunications Service; • Dry-Cleaning Solvent Tax; • Primary
Forest Products Tax; • Freight Car Line Companies; and • Various Taxes
Administered by the Excise Tax Division.
