COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) Ohioans could soon buy their groceries or morning coffee with silver and gold instead of the American dollar.
House Bill 206, introduced by Reps. Jennifer Gross (R-West Chester) and Riordan McClain (R-Ashland), would establish a state currency based on gold and silver. The bill directs the state treasurer to set up a transactional currency rooted in silver and gold to address concerns with the value of the U.S. dollar.

I don't really understand what this is meant to accomplish, but since it is coming from the Republicans, I doubt it is good.

(56,261 posts)States can't have their own currencies.
Apparently they can have gold or silver token. Not really a separate currency, just a share of gold or silver. Changes value exactly as does the metal. That's ok, but it's not really a currency.

(1 post)What to make of this is an education on money and currency is needed. The dollar ceased being the same dollar when the Federal Reserve Act passed, it became the Federal Reserve Note.
We've been fooled into allowing the creation of a debt based economy which means that every dollar that comes into existence is being loaned into existence by the banks(including our central bank). The banks will then be collecting interest on those loaned dollars either by individuals or by the government but they never create enough dollars to pay that interest so all of society is thrown into that crisis with bankruptcies and defaults built into the system.

Please explain a non-right wing phrasing of your point, if you can.
