Ohio lawmakers propose bill to make Election Day a holiday

Ohio Democratic lawmakers have proposed legislation to make Election Day a state holiday.

The state’s voter turnout varies per election, ranging from 70% for the 2024 presidential election to 10% in 2025.

“Democracy works better when we all participate,” said Catherine Turcer, a voting rights advocate at Common Cause Ohio.

When it comes to elections, every vote counts — especially in local races, she said.

Why can't we have *both* early voting and a voting holiday? Diamond_Dog 4 hrs ago #2

in 1964 back in Ohio, it was being talked about at that time. Obviously, it didn't happen. To tell the truth, I am not so sure it would increase voter turnout. However, try and discover whether or not it does work. It can always be changed back.

Why does it have to be one or the other? People such as nurses, police, hospital or nursing home workers, would not be able to have the entire day off to vote.
