Cordray wrote the amicus brief that conformed to the desires of the gun industry.

Cordray would eliminate the power of our state governments to regulate firearms.

"Based on his longstanding support for Second Amendment rights, Attorney General Richard Cordray announced today that his office has co-sponsored an amicus brief in the United States Supreme Court, arguing that these rights should be protected from undue restrictions imposed by state and local governments."

This is worse than I thought!

***The Plain Dealer account***

2010: Cleveland has about a half-dozen firearms provisions that are stricter than the state law passed in 2006. For example, every firearm in the city must be registered; no one can openly carry a gun; and assault rifles and shotguns are banned -- all bans that are preempted by Ohio's uniform gun law and have been on hold during the court case.

Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson said the ruling will put urban populations like Cleveland's at greater risk for gun violence.

"Even though we've made progress in Cleveland, gun violence is a very real threat that we face, particularly our young people," Jackson said in a statement. "Our inability to enforce laws that are right for our city flies in the face of home rule and takes power away the people at the local level."

Attorney General Richard Cordray praised the decision as a big win for those exercising their Second Amendment rights.

"This is an important victory for every gun owner in Ohio," Cordray said in a statement. "Before 2006, Ohioans faced a confusing patchwork of local ordinances with different restrictions on gun ownership and possession."

Chris Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association's Institute for Legislative Action echoed Cordray's comments and added in a statement: "If Cleveland, or any other city, wants to crack down on violence, city leaders there should focus on prosecuting criminals, not enacting new gun laws that only serve to restrict law-abiding citizens."

Cleveland Law Director Robert Triozzi, however, said the decision "eviscerates" home rule in Ohio.

Cordray is from the gun culture. As governor, he will have power to shape gun issues in the legislature. No matter who has the "majority" next year, Cordray would pressure Democrats to vote as the gun industry desires. He will pollute the messaging with the simplistic negativism that the conservatives used so well.

I thought that Rich Cordray was a great candidate until I explored this. He got "all the newspaper endorsements" last time he ran statewide. He managed the federal consumer protection bureau well. Although, in all fairness, that bureau was the genius of now Senator Elizabeth Warren.

Time is tight. Joe Schiavoni has a complete position statements on his very well organized web page. Cordray comes up short on that account too. Dennis Kucinich is fantastic because he was a dedicated antiwar activist, but his comments on his Fox News show give me pause. I don't think he could defeat old whistle teeth or the car dealer. Bill O'Neill knows how to win state wide, but he entered late and his Facebook post about his love life was embarrassing.

I am voting for Joe Schiavoni.

1. Good heavens!

I didn't know this! Thanks for posting it. I'm going to share it with some fellow Ohioans.

I have supported Joe ever since he announced he was running .... unfortunately, he's an underdog. He's from my area, too, and you should read the bashing he gets by deplorables in my local rag. Joe is a good, solid, Dem. We need to get the word out!

I don't know how anyone could vote for deWine, but I'm always amazed the traction Repukes get around here.

2. This was 8 years ago. I believe Cordrey is approachable and am willing to work hard in

that effort.

Our country has already been crippled by one issue voters - there is more to like about Cordrey than not.

I remember well when Mothers Against
Drunk Drivng organized and educated and lobbied the justice system in this matter. Women were disperesred to court rooms all over this country to audit drunk driving sentences.

3. "He has always worked to balance the individual's Second Amendment rights w/the need for public..."

"...safety". Except when he undid the ordinances of Cleveland police, prosecutors, and mayor to protect us.

I borrowed that from Cordray's webpage.

"He understands and respects the freedoms granted by the U.S. and Ohio Constitution..." He is trying to be a centrist and get gun-absolutists to vote for him. He is not authentic. That is not how to inspire people to register and vote for you.

I typed all these quotes. He does not want me to cut and paste them. https://secure.cordrayforohio.com/page/content/on-the-issues/#gunviolence

6. 3/28: Democrat Cordray and his running mate cant agree on assault weapons ban

Dennis Kucinich has called for a complete ban on assault-style weapons in the wake of the school shooting in Parkland, Florida. Cordray called for expanded background checks, but not a guns ban.

Cordray's running mate, former U.S. Rep. Betty Sutton of northeast Ohio, agrees with Kucinich.

On Tuesday, she spoke openly of her stance at a meeting of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights Democratic Club. A video of the comments was publicized by Kucinich's campaign.

“I have stood for an assault weapons ban. My running mate believes that the semi-automatic weapons should be available for legal ownership by those who play by the rules and follow the law,” Sutton said. “Rich and I do have a difference of opinion on this, and I think having a difference of opinion on a team is not a bad thing.”

8. My friend, a municipal judge, was stalked and shot in his breezeway.

I used to mow his lawn when I was a teenager.

9. A social worker I know lost a client to a botched abortion. A worker I know had to move into his

sons basement because he lost his job and healthcare. Municipal taxes and local school taxes have been raised
in each and every community in Ohio because Kasich stole the money and hid it in the rainy day fund. on and on.

While I am heart broken and fearful of the human life lost at the hands of AR-15's, I am not willing to throw the baby out with the bath water.

Cordray can be lobbied. The people can reach him.

Dennis will not win, cannot win. And Joe, a solid guy, needed to start his campaign years ago to garner as much name recognization as possible.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend. It is crappy. I just am sick at heart of the division. Kucinich can not win. What he will do however, is split primary votes. If Joe wins, I will work my butt off for him. But he will be in a huge hole before he starts.

10. Cordray is deep into the gun culture. We will lose ground if he is governor

He will sign bills taking away control of guns and the gun nuts will be allowed to buy more types of dangerous weapons. Gun nuts will be carrying guns in more places and overruling merchants and public administrators. My post from cincinnati.com shows that he is in favor of assault rifles. Even Betty Sutton sees that as bad policy.

Joe Schiavoni actually has plans for how to govern. Cordray thinks he can step into office and rule on day one like some returning prince.
