Another much better proposal to re-name Mosquito Lake
A Hubbard woman is offering an alternative to renaming Trumbull County’s Mosquito Lake State Park after former president Donald Trump.
Antonette Scharsu has created an online petition on change.org asking the Ohio Senate to rename the park Harriet Taylor Upton State Park.
A Warren resident, Upton was a leader of the suffragist movement aimed at gaining the right to vote for women.
Upton worked for 30 years to help pass the 19th amendment, giving women the right to vote. She worked with her mentor, Susan B. Anthony, who did not live to see the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920. It was said by the Washington Post, "Mrs. Upton is without a doubt the best-liked and wisest suffrage worker in the country.”

“As a lifelong resident of Trumbull County, a civil rights warrior, and leader of diversity, equality & inclusivity, I cannot stand by as this ludicrous proposal is made by one of our state leaders,” said Scharsu. “I propose if the name of the park be changed at all, it be changed to Harriet Taylor Upton State Park.”
