SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon senate voted to change the state bird from the western meadowlark to the osprey Thursday.
The senate voted 24 to 5 in favor of Senate Concurrent Resolution 18.
The resolution said, “The western meadowlark is an unoriginal choice in that it is also the state bird of Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota and Wyoming.”
It also said the western meadowlark is relatively rare in the areas where the greatest number of Oregonians live.
