Re the Oregon Legislature: correct me if im wrong
As I understand it.. not long ago, the Oregon house made a deal that the republicans would stop dragging their feet via forcing all bills to be read aloud, and in turn we promised them even seats on the redistricting commission which was widely expected to be adding a new congressional seat to its portfolio.
For some reason, an agreement to end walkouts was NOT part of this deal.
And now, because we still have covid restrictions as case numbers rise again, the Oregon senate republicans have started the same "read it aloud" slowdown, completely undoing any theoretical benefit of the deal.
How does this not violate the spirit of the deal, ending it and requiring a complete renegotiation of all details? Do we think for one hot second that if the numbers were reversed, they would do anything other than bull over and cut dems out of even the most remote hint of power, no matter what they had to do to accomplish it?
