Cryptic Leaflet Threatens To Expose ‘Disabled’
By Shaun Heasley
August 9, 2013 In what officials are calling the work of a hate group, fliers have appeared in several Portland, Ore. neighborhoods threatening to out people with disabilities who receive government aid. Portland officials are asking for help from the public after learning of the leaflets found in at least five neighborhoods. “There are sixteen people in this neighborhood who vote and receive cash disability payments,” reads one of the typed notes signed by “Artemis of the wildland.” “The names of these people are being posted where they can be seen by taxpayers and the neighborhood can decide who is truly disabled,” the note continues. “Some of us in the neighborhood wish to save this democracy and to stand in the way of those who would destroy it.” in full: http://www.disabilityscoop.com/2013/08/09/cryptic-leaflet-disabled/18479/

1. Typical "Brown Shirt" Tactics Of The 1930's In Germany
Except the attacks were on Gypsies, gays and Jews and other vulnerable groups. The GOP "hate machine" seems to be working very well these days.

2. Yea, and it is such an infuriating advance on the vulnerable, and why I posted it here.
Just in case someone in the area saw anything and could notify the authorities.

3. The Nazis also attacked people with disabilities.
In fact, much of the technology used to perpetrate the Holocaust--gas vans and gas chambers--was first used as part of the "T-4" program of extermination of people with disabilities. People with disabilities were deemed "life not worthy of living." Hitler called them "useless eaters."
How far is that, really, from Ayn Rand Republicans and their ilk? |

4. This is why I'd like an amendment
that would extend privacy beyond the 4th. It should not be okay to publicize information about private citizens without their express consent.

5. Do you mean these folks are not protected by HIPPA? Whoever got a hold of this info is breaching
that law, no?

6. I don't know.
Whether it's a tighter protection for privacy, or more stringent enforcement of what we've got, or both, I'd like to see these people, and all of us, protected.

7. Agreed. I guess we'll learn more if they ever pinpoint who is behind this...thanks. n/t

8. This is utterly sick.
I hope this person is caught and exposed, the sooner the better.
