Reading mayor blocks raising of pride flag, calling it an emblem of a 'political movement'

READING, PA — Dozens of people were ready to make history Monday evening by raising the pride flag over City Hall for the first time, but Mayor Wally Scott had a different idea.

Scott prohibited City Council and city employees from allowing the flag, which recognizes Reading's Pride Celebration for people in the LGBTQ community, to be raised minutes before the event was set to start. It was to be flown until Sunday.

As the People’s Mayor, his goal is to create a government that serves the people, not rules them; a government that lifts its citizens, not pushes and hurts them. A government that treats all people it serves with dignity and respect.

His motto throughout life has been “…to live every day like it is your last, because, in the end, it does not matter who you are or who you think you are, we are all humbled before God. Let us judge each other a little less and love each other a little more.
