Latest poll finds Biden still leading Trump among Pa. voters, who also like Wolf's pandemic response

Joe Biden leads President Donald Trump 49% to 42% among registered voters in Pennsylvania, according to a poll released this morning.

That’s nearly the same as a month earlier, when a similar poll by the same organization, Franklin & Marshall College, found Biden leading 50% to 41%.

Also similar to last month: 59% of people who plan to vote for Biden say their vote is actually “against” Trump rather than for Biden.

<snip>

Seventy-two percent of poll participants said they are “very interested” in the 2020 election, which is about the same as a month ago and similar to the same point in 2016, according to the poll authors.

The poll found that fewer supporters are undecided or supportive of a third-party candidate than in 2016. That’s potentially significant since a trio of third-party candidates in 2016, Gary Johnson, Jill Stein and Darrell Lane, took in 218,000 votes — considerably more than the 44,000 votes separating Trump and Hillary Clinton.

<snip>

Among Republicans, 78% gave Trump a high job performance rating, compared with 33% of independents and 9% of Democrats.

The poll found that 48% percent of respondents believe Trump is better at managing the economy, compared to 44% who favor Biden.

But poll respondents gave the edge to Biden when asked about other issues. For example, on the matters of character and judgment, understanding concerns of ordinary Americans, and handling foreign policy, 50% or more said Biden would do better.

Similarly, only 30% said Trump has the best plan for the pandemic, and only 29% said he’s the most honest and trustworthy, with nearly half saying Biden is the most honest and trustworthy.

Less than one in ten voters have an unfavorable opinion of both Biden and Trump, or half as many as in 2016, when 16% disliked both candidates.

<snip>

The poll found major partisan differences regarding mail-in voting, with 52% of Democrats planning to vote by mail, compared to 84% of Republicans and 58% of independents planning to vote in person.

1. I just can't believe how many people in this world are dumber than a bag of hammers.

29% said Donny Bodybags is honest and trustworthy. 48% think he's managing the economy well. When the question was about Trump's character, the unanimous answer wasn't, "Get the fuck out of here, he has no character."

There are just no words.

2. If you ask that question where I live in PA

the answer would be 75% think he is honest and 75% think he is doing a great job. Rural PA is full of hate and racism. PA cities are the reason that PA is blue in national elections. Until we counter the toxics effect of RW talk radio ,Fox and RW internet sites it will only get worse.

3. But how do you do that? These people are so willing to embrace the hand that stabs them.

4. Insulate (From The Stupidity)

I'm pretty convinced most taxes are generated in suburban and urban areas. In states like PA, most people (and taxes) are generated in about a dozen or so counties. The straw man that's constantly being thrown out there is Dems (from the urban areas) just tax and spend. I'll counter that suburban and urban county taxes are so high because there's a net outflow of tax revenue at the state and federal level that has to be made up by higher local property taxes.

We really need to prioritize where government tax money goes; it should go to the areas that pay them. Most rural areas have declining populations, lower worker participation rates than suburban and even some urban areas and lower per capita earnings. Based on these factors, tax revenue into these areas should be declining over time (but I suspect they are not in PA because the Repubs still hold the legislature and their strongholds are in these areas of the state).

We are facing severe deficits at the federal level and state and local levels to some extent (not as much because these entities can't run budget deficits). Austerity is coming folks, count on it. If we don't get a handle on who's "giving" and who's "taking", the Dems are just going to get bludgeoned with this same old "tax and spend" mantra (because it works in the public arena). Keep the taxes local, including Social Security taxes/payments. Areas that aren't generating revenue should not be able to avoid their responsibilities in paying their fair share by taking it from other areas that generate surpluses (and want good roads and educations systems).

Rant over.

5. Why are the PA colleges and universities airing their sports events on hate radio?

Stop that shit immediately! FYI - I'm not the only one on DU that's saying this - a lot of us are.

We need to stop supporting these broadcasters of hatred and division. Boycott the advertisers, refuse their services, don't give them any business. Their pockets aren't that deep!

6. I have never had an interest in sports. I don't know why those colleges and universities

use hate radio. Do you? Are you boycotting them?

I don't understand why you told me lots on DU are saying this "for my information." What's that about?

7. It's not an attack on you

This is the Pennsylvania group's page and it has been mentioned on here many times. If you're not a regular on this page, well I'll explain it. I didn't suddenly think of this, it has been mentioned here before.

Your question was how to ensure the hate radio stations have less of an impact in this state. I'm giving one way to do it. The Pitt, Penn State, Gannon, Penn U and other college football games give these stations big boosts in their listeners on the days when football games are aired. People who don't normally listen to radio especially AM radio, are listening for those games. The universities and colleges can strategically make deals for airing their football and basketball games in a way that will benefit the stations that provide balanced, politically neutral news rather than right-wing Faux News wanna-be's.

Yes, this year is different because of the Covid situation. But in previous years (and for future years) it's unfortunate that the hate radio stations were not boycotted. That was my point, and I apologize if it sounded like a personal attack on you. It wasn't.

8. For Penn State sports, fans and

alumni are everywhere in the state. Amazingly, the largest college in the state does not have a major AM broadcast partner in either Philadelphia or Allegheny county. Their broadcast network is the small, local stations. It's why you drive the entire length of the turnpike on a football Saturday, hit the search button on your car radio and get the football broadcast on just about every channel.

9. The FandM Poll, formerly the Keystone Poll

has been run by Terry Madonna for decades. Madonna is considered the dean of Pennsylvania political analysis. This is the poll I have the most faith in because Madonna has spent so many years studying PA politics. He knows the state inside and out.

F and M poll puts all its info out there for anyone to see, too, unlike Quinnipiac and others.

This is a good poll result for Biden and being consistent with the previous poll probably means most minds are already made up.
