New PA. Legislative Redistricting Maps Released - Still Unconstitutional, Still Incumbent protection

Here's the latest Pa. House and Senate gerrymandering scheme for districts. The linked editorial talks about how it is still unconstitutional and illogical because it splits up so many municipalities and counties into many different districts.
The primary goal in most gerrymandering is to protect incumbents - of both parties. That leads to a lack of competition in the general election, and an increase in extremists in the legislature. For example, many Republicans were much more of a primary challenge from teabaggers this year than they were afraid of a challenge from Democrats. That does not lead to political compromises in the middle.
