18 Public Universities in Pa. agree to hold down tuition increases in return for no more budget cuts

The attached link says that the Presidents of the 18 state-related and state-owned universities have committed to hold down tuition increases to the rate of inflation -- in return for the State Senate having approved a revised budget that would hold their state funding level.

The State Senate's alternative budget actually had relatively strong bi-partisan support.

Corbett had proposed a second year of slashing of the universities' state funding, and has said he would like to eventually eliminate all of their state funding.

"Meanwhile, lawmakers say they've secured commitments from the presidents of 18 state-supported universities, including Penn State, Temple and Pitt, to keep 2012-13 tuition increases at or below the rate of inflation if lawmakers wipe out Corbett's proposal to cut 20 percent -- $230 million combined -- from their annual share of taxpayer aid."
