Trump leans toward Dr. Oz in Pennsylvania Senate race

In the race for Donald Trump’s coveted endorsement in Pennsylvania’s Senate GOP primary, it looks like Dr. Mehmet Oz has the edge.

The former president is leaning toward endorsing Oz, said three people familiar with Trump’s thinking, speaking on the condition of anonymity. Trump said recently that he is nearing a decision on whether to weigh in on the race, which is a key contest in the battle for the Senate majority this fall.

With Trump, though, nothing is final until it’s final — and it’s possible he’ll decide to issue no endorsement. He has recently met with both Oz and former hedge fund CEO David McCormick in Mar-a-Lago and talked with multiple people about the GOP primary.

McCormick and Oz, as well as their allies, have been locked in a battle for months over Trump’s nod. With his loyal base and unparalleled popularity among Republican voters, Trump could have a significant impact on the contest. If he picks a favorite, their success or lack thereof will also be closely watched as a test of his own hold on the party ahead of the 2024 presidential election, particularly since some of his candidates have faced challenges this year.

Oz is a Muslim who refuses to give up his Turkish (dual) citizenship.

He cannot qualify for some top security clearances so he could not fully serve his supposed constituents.

This looks like the latest poll, from Emerson: https://emersonpolling.reportablenews.com/pr/pennsylvania-2022-gop-poll-david-mccormick-leads-primary-for-u-s-senate
With undecideds included, McCormick leads Oz 27-20%.

Hallie Jackson and a reporter for the Phila Inq were discussing the Trump endorsement. The question arose about whether or not Oz actually lives in PA. The Inq reporter said Oz bought a house in the Phila burb and now "lives" there. Sure hope Dems have that house staked out because I'm sure the Oz's don't actually live there.

Dems should make sure to ask Oz about his PA tax return. We have a flat income tax here with almost no deductions. You don't get to deduct investment losses either. If you have a loss, it's reported as 0, not a negative number. You also have to report all your investment income. I know PA and NJ have a reciprocal tax agreement since residents of both states can live in one and work in the other. However, you can be a part-time resident of PA and not pay tax for the days on which you are not in the state. Oz should either be paying income tax in PA or not paying by claiming the days he's not in PA. Either way, it's something Dems should be prepared to attack Oz on his proclaimed residency. Knowing rich people, they'll do whatever they need to to avoid paying income tax. My bet is Oz has not paid any tax to PA. McCormick probably hasn't either.
