Related: About this forumDid Shrewsbury's mayor err in praising a group of candidates in the borough newsletter?
York Dispatch
By Matt Enright
Shrewsbury's mayor spoke at an event hosted by several school board candidates who've identified themselves as anti-mask and against "controversial curricula."
In the waning days of the primary campaign, Mayor Michael Sharkey used the borough's newsletter to praise the group dubbed the Southern York County Parent and Taxpayer Coalition and composed of conservative Republicans for its commitment to "fiscal responsibility and parental rights."
"Its refreshing to see engaged citizens seeking to work to strengthen our community," the mayor wrote in the municipal newsletter.
Sharkey's written comments led several Shrewsbury residents to cry foul on social media and in emails to The York Dispatch, asking if the elected official had erred in using the government-funded publication to make political endorsements.

Of course I'm one of the residents who complained about my RWNJ "mayor" using my tax money to promote his RWNJ friends.
Sharkey never contacted me after I complained, but note he did reply to the York Dispatch when asked.
I'm still pis...!

(70 posts)1. Good for you for complaining!
How inappropriate for a Mayor to use the municipal newsletter to push some right wing wackadoodle group. Good for you to complain to him. And good for the York Dispatch to write about it. Im so sick of republican politicians using public funds for their own political means. They have no shame. And a group against controversial curricula and masks?! thats all one needs to know about them to know theyre RWNJ group.

(40,730 posts)2. Wow! That mayor should have been charged regular advertising rates
He used his position as mayor to get free advertising for his Repuke "buddies."
I'd be pissed at this too, don't blame you a bit.
