As always, Philadelphia and PA are synonymous. We Western PA folks are the step-children. Pittsburgh and Erie are both over here. Shoot, even our politicians usually forget we are here.

(63,645 posts)Grew up in Wilmington, Delaware. Got all my TV from Philadelphia.
Any Pittsburgh institutions we can drop in there?
Or heck, we can completely change what it says. Just gimme some text and I'll drop it in there.

(18,219 posts)I will see if the PA crew in DU2 can come up with a concensus. I know just what you mean about the TV from Philly---I live right on the border of Ohio and all my TV comes from there. No PA TV stations anywhere around here. But I am surprised that Wilmington DE would not have it's own stations. Hmmmm, maybe it is smaller than I think.

(1,650 posts)She moved out of Pennsylvania many years ago (40?) , is 70 years old now and any time she comes home to visit she always has Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes. I like Whoopie pies better, but never refused to eat a Peanut Butter Kandy Kake.

(18,219 posts)I have no idea what a Tastykake is, and only in more recent years have I heard of a Philly cheese steak sandwich. Oh well, when I lived in TX, anyone who asked me where I was from would immediately think Philadephia. We might as well be Timbuktu when compared to Philly.
PB Tandy Takes! I can't live without those things. Thank goodness I don't have to.

(3,312 posts)...or think that "Philadelphia" and "Pennsylvania" are synonyms.
And there are far too many of them.
I am from suburban Pittsburgh, in Westmoreland County. A few years ago I took part in a so-called "statewide" political training; their Philly-based staff listed me as being from NW Pennsylvania in the Erie area because they figured what the heck it's somewhere out west and that's close enough.
Yes Skinner, please change or delete the group description.

(18,219 posts)And too sad as well. We can do better with the "statement of purpose", which is what Skinner came up with. On DU2, I have had a wet blanket thrown on some funny things that were sort of related to the direction Skinner went with our state and all the others. I wish he would have been as cute with ours as with Indiana---Hoosier Daddy. He had me laughing at that one.
So...I suppose that the statement of purpose will be an impossible task. But I will see how suggestions go.

(5,413 posts)each summer. My grandkids from all over the US would rather spend the day at Kennywood Park than at Busch Gardens or King's Dominion or even Disneyland. They are all Steeler fans and proudly tell people their 'family' is from the best city in the US, Pittsburgh.

(10,201 posts)When I lived there I had no identity at all for the area I lived in.
1. I had only one sports team. I could drive an hour and watch the Devils play. I could of course cross the street from there and watch 2 NY football teams.
2. If you did not live near NYC, Philly or the shore they had no clue where you were from.
3. We had forests, rivers and beautiful mountains. No one else seems to believe they exist.
4. I used to live in a very large town. Even in NJ I had to describe it as "the last exit in Jersey off 78 before you enter PA."
5. My "local" TV stations were a mix of TV stations from city's both over an hour and a half drive from the house. Did I mention neither were in my state.
6. The Jersey Shore tv show. Nuff said on that one.
I now live north of Philly. I still love NJ, and will continue to work there, but I like living in PA much better.
