We received a call this week which can only be characterized as a Push Poll by Pat Toomey.
It's a recorded call. They first ask who you would choose for President if the election was held today. The next question is your choice for Senate, Republican Pat Toomey or Democrat Katie McGinty. If you select McGinty, you are then asked if you have seen the ad stating that Katie McGinty is planning a big tax increase!
You are then asked to respond Yes, No, or I Don't Know, then the demographic questions.
This is two-pronged sleaze, really. They are using the poll to disseminate negative information on McGinty...AND...Toomey's Big Corporate Sponsors want to see if anyone is watching their dishonest ads.
How low can you go with your lies, Pat Toomey?

(50,986 posts)Election Night we could flip on the tv machine and see Pennsylvania voters toss Pat Toomey off the barge.
Voters in that state thrilled us once before, fairly recently, by doing the same for Rick Santorum.
You're on a hot streak, Pennsylvania! Keep up the good work.

(18,219 posts)since I have participated in a "poll" during election time. I got caught in one of those, with all sorts of horrible things about the Dem and great things about the Rep candidate. That was when it was a live person, and I had a lot to say about the wording of the questions. I guess that it is easier to have robots doing the work......Republicans working to take jobs from people again, what a surprise.

(12,319 posts)We get a lot of polling calls around here, probably because we vote on a regular basis. Yesterday we were polled by PPP, which is very legit.
You're right----Republicans working to take jobs from people again.

(9,111 posts)If a human doesn't start talking after 2 hellos, I hang up. I'm sorry if I miss a good poll opportunity with this tactic, but there are too many robocalls daily, 6 robocalls, and only ~ 3 "people we know" calls on our home landline phone. And I don't have a cell phone, so that's my main way of communicating verbally with people I know.
We have gotten political robocalls from our side, that leave a message on our answering machine. The ones who call repeatedly and instantly hang up when the answering machine turns on don't seem to want to have any positive impact on our lives. If they were proud of what they're doing, they'd leave a message to us, and ask for a call back.
I think you analysis of the push poll is spot on. Both points you made about the misleading "question" trying to lie about Toomey's opponent, and the attempt to get feedback for their ad buy endeavors, are good insights that I might not have picked up on.

(12,319 posts)This was after they had shown their coverage of Bernie Sanders' speech for Katie McGinty at Carnegie Mellon.
Toomey made some comments about Sanders, then this very, very lame remark, "You all know that Progressive is just another word for Liberal" followed by some giggles and hardy-har-hars.
It sounded very awkward and inauthentic. I'm sure Toomey is being fed these "killer" lines these days. It's disgusting.
Concerning the push polls---they think we're all stupid, McMike. Meanwhile, their efforts are very transparent. The Koch Brothers can take their money and put it where the "sun don't shine".
P.S. I think McGinty has really picked up her game.

(9,111 posts)I thought of politically non-astute people who might want to give an anti-Toomey opinion and would face the loaded question with no ability to do so, and wouldn't know what to make of it.
I knew that Bernie was going to be at CMU, but couldn't go. Toomey looks like the weasel character from the old Looney Tunes cartoon with foghorn leghorn. He's never been competent, just super well-funded. Typical right wing wall street teabag. I agree about his awkward inauthenticity. Their candidates are appallingly abysmal and incompetent, but are magically sold to the public as being intelligent and having a reasonable alternate viewpoint to the Dems. Of course, his throw away lines are canned and lame, and he can find some righties in our local media to pretend they're astute and witty.
I'm hoping we can jettison that greaseball, and Katie makes an excellent opponent. She'd be a good addition to the Senate Dems, I hope we can help her and she can then help us.

(9,111 posts)simple stupid single-purpose driven dialogue: "Yeah! Yeah!"
Reminds me of the Corbett Barney Rubble pic you posted during the last gov race, with the Koch bro boss.
Why do all of their pols bear such a strong resemblance to ridiculous cartoon characters?
Oh, yes. The Corbett Barney Rubble pic with Mr. Slate as a Kochbro. That was a classic!

It's just that one pile of animated fur is red, the other is orange, is the only difference I see. They both boast of unique hair styles.
