Why is there no early voting in PA? This is surprising. Are there movements to allow early voting?

We have early voting in Maine. Anyone can get a mail-in absentee ballot. You don't need a special reason. It's great.

PA is such a historic state. It's surprising to me.

7. Extreme gerrymandering here.

We'd love to vote out a jerk like the contemptible Turzai. He's in a very safe Republican area.

9. Turzai might not be a safe as you think

Apparently Turzai inserted himself - or at least people in his district think he did - into a Walmart zoning issue and voters are mad about it. They could take it out on him at the polls since a Dem managed to win a write-in slot during the primary. Before that, Turzai was running unopposed.

Here's the story: http://www.post-gazette.com/early-returns/erstate/2016/05/22/Turzai-target-of-dissent-in-North-Hills/stories/201605200179

Another guy who is losing his grip on his safe Republican seat is the thoroughly reprehensible Darryl Metcalfe.

10. Hmm. Interesting story!

It would be great to see Turzai lose. Metcalfe too!

11. Metcalfe is a deplorable

This district would most probably remain Republican, but perhaps we'd get a more traditional Republican legislator.

2. We've never had early voting

I never even heard of it til I started hanging around here.
Since our gerrymandered-to-death state legislature is extremely red, I highly doubt if anyone is even thinking about it.
One good thing, at least where I am (Philly burbs) on Election Day there's polling places everywhere - 3 in my little township alone - so I've never had to wait in a really long line to vote, even in presidential years.

5. That would make a great reform for Gov. Wolf to promote.

I recently read that 35 states have some form of early voting.

We also have a very rigid absentee ballot system.

We are one of two states that still has a state-store system for selling alcohol, so what do you expect! (Utah is the other one.) I can also remember "'blue laws" where stores were closed on Sundays as late as the late-1970s.
