Downingtown woman charged with embezzling $194,000
A 49-year-old Chester County woman was charged Friday with embezzling more than $194,000 from a former employer and using a stolen identity to get more than $100,000 in college loans for her children, acting U.S. Attorney Louis D. Lappen announced.
Kimberly OToole, of Downingtown, was charged with four counts of wire fraud for allegedly stealing the funds from Miwon North America, a chemical company where her husband worked as president and general manager.
From 2012 to 2013, while she had accounting and bookkeeping duties at Miwon, she secretly opened a fraudulent bank account in Miwons name and deposited checks intended for the company into that account, prosecutors said. OToole then used funds from the account to make mortgage payments on her home and to pay her cable bill, prosecutors said.
When Miwon detected the fraud, she allegedly attempted a cover-up through the unauthorized use of a coworkers email.
