Former 'Southern Charm' star & state treasurer Thomas Ravenel pleads guilty to assault, avoids jail

Former SC Treasurer and star of Bravo's 'Southern Charm,' Thomas Ravenel (R) pleaded guilty to assault and battery in a Charleston County court Wednesday.

The plea allows Ravenel to avoid jail time, instead paying a $500 fine, according to court records.

Ravenel was arrested in September 2018 and charged with assault and battery second degree in relation to an incident that occurred in January 2015, according to Charleston County Detention Center records and an incident report shared by the Charleston Police Department.

Charleston police opened an investigation in May after a victim contacted them to report an incident that occurred at a home on Charlotte Street in Charleston in early 2015.

When charges were announced in September 2018, a police affidavit revealed Ravenel was accused of taking off his clothes and making sexual advances toward the woman, including grabbing her genitals and forcing his in her face, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit also said Ravenel attempted to remove the victim's clothing during the attack and the clothing became wrapped around her neck, cutting her skin and causing her to struggle to breathe.

After the victim was able to get away from Ravenel, the affidavit said she called family members about the incident and photos were immediately taken of her injuries.
